Just a quick note to say I upgraded the site to the latest version of WordPress today. WordPress is what we use to create the site. It looks like everything is working OK, but if you see anything that’s wonky or just plain broken please let me know.
My old man’s a . . .
On my way to work this morning a random childhood memory soared to the front of my brain. When I was a kid I used to go to summer day camp at my elementary school. The teachers would take us on field trips, play games with us, watch movies, and all kinds of other fun stuff.
One day they taught us the song “My Old Man.” They told us the words were:
My old man’s a sailor, what do you think about that?
He wears a sailor’s collar, he wears a sailor’s hat.
He wears a sailor’s raincoat, he wears a sailor’s shoes,
and every Saturday evening he reads the sailor’s news.
And someday,
if I can,
I’m gonna be a sailor, the same as my old man.
Then they said we were supposed to substitute our own father’s occupation for the word “sailor.” Well I wasn’t sure what my dad’s title was. I guess I wasn’t the only one because the teacher told us we could ask our dads about it when we got home, and we’d sing the song again tomorrow. Continue reading
Scrapbook love
Happy Valentines Day! It seems fitting that today I would finally start working on mine and Roger’s wedding scrapbook. I’ve only been putting it off for over a year now (nearly 2 years!). It’s a big project and a little intimidating, but I’m excited to get started.
I’ve been printing and organizing photos for a while, and today I went through several boxes and bins of wedding mementos. I separated everything into piles based on the sections that will be in the album. It was fun reading through all the cards we received. Our friends and family wrote so many sweet notes of encouragement, and I couldn’t help but smiling as I read through them all.
The great office cleanup of 2009
Rachel and I came up with a list of things to do in 2009 while we were in Amsterdam, one of the first on the list was to clean up the office.
Our office was really more of a dungeon, and after picking up a laptop a few months ago I hadn’t really used the room for much more than throwing crap into it which didn’t belong elsewhere. The closet was a dumpster of large bins filled to the brim with random wires, parts, and adapters – many dating back 8 or so years.
The project started with putting out 4 boxes to categorize my wires into – computer wires, video wires, audio wires, and power wires. Only after I sorted through 2 large bins and a duffle bag did I really have an understanding of what wires I actually had. After that I went back through these boxes, tied up the wires with zip ties, and threw outdated cables and cables which I had numerous duplicates of into a donation box. Continue reading
A good change of pace
In July Roger and I are going on a mission trip to Ecuador with my parents’ church in Wilmer. To help raise money for the trip, the church is hosting a golf tournament in Mobile. I was tasked with designing the sponsor signs.
