The last time Roger and I went to Baton Rouge a hurricane sent us home early. So we were happy to head back soon after for our friend Caleb’s wedding. Old friends, Cajun food (oh how I’ve missed it!), and two friends deciding to spend their lives together – it doesn’t get much better than that.
If we look like zombies next time you see us . . .
. . . don’t be offended. We may just be tired.
This weekend Roger and I are headed off on a Gulf Coast road trip adventure! We start our journey Thursday night where we’ll spend the night at my folks’ just in time to celebrate Mom’s birthday a few days late. Then we’re off Friday morning to Baton Rouge to watch our good buddy Caleb marry his lady. Sunday morning we’ll drive the 3 hours back to Wilmer for a meeting with the Ecuador mission team. (We’re going on a mission trip to Ecuador in June.) Afterwards, it’s back to home sweet home Marietta.
Suggested Rules of Dating
Today I got into a discussion with a couple of co-workers about lessons learned in dating, and it quickly turned into story-telling time (and confession!). After all, experience is sometimes the best teacher.
Oh it’s so easy to look back now and say “what was I thinking?” But it’s a different story when you’re on the actual date. Wouldn’t it have been great to have a friend tell you back then that what you’re doing is against the rules of dating? OK, so you probably wouldn’t have listened (I know I wouldn’t). I’m happily married now, but I didn’t get there without breaking a few of the rules and learning some hard, seemingly obvious lessons.
Amsterdam Part 2: It’s fun to be a tourist
The last time we went to Amsterdam, the Heineken Experience (brewery and museum) was closed for renovations. So we were excited to find out the brewery would be open for our second trip. Visiting Heineken was my favorite part of the trip. It was a lot like World of Coke in Atlanta, except with beer.
If Granny Arnold could see me now
When I was a kid, my granny (Mom’s mom) loved to eat zucchini. I equated the green veggie to the likes of Brussels sprouts and spinach. In other words, I wouldn’t go near the stuff. On my journey to adulthood, however, I discovered I actually liked spinach and the occasional zucchini slice.
So tonight I tried a new recipe for a squash and rice casserole. You can use yellow squash, zucchini, or both. I stuck with the green stuff. It turned out pretty good, and it was easy to make. Maybe one day I’ll try something with Brussels sprouts. But they’re not all that appealing . . . even as an adult.
Keep reading for pictures of the casserole. Continue reading
